Unauthorized Claim: (Chargeback) This situation usually arises when a buyer uses PayPal to pay with a debit or credit card. Scammers often take advantage of this by making a purchase and then immediately contacting their card issuer to claim they never authorized the payment. Unfortunately, most PayPal sellers end up losing these disputes because they can't prove that the buyer's card was used without their consent. The best approach is to stay out of it and let the card issuer handle the situation. If the card was genuinely used fraudulently, you might have a chance, but otherwise, it's a tough battle.

Another important point about these disputes is that if you provide any kind of evidence, you’re essentially agreeing to let PayPal contest the chargeback with the card issuer. This can annoy the issuer, and on top of that, PayPal will charge you $50 for each chargeback they contest on your behalf. When I say contest, I mean they just submit whatever proof or explanation you give them!

Not as described: (Dispute) This occurs when a buyer claims that the item they received doesn’t match the description you provided. If this happens, especially with virtual items, it’s usually best to communicate through the dispute message board. If that doesn’t work, the case will escalate to a PayPal hold, and I recommend doing nothing and just waiting for PayPal to make a decision.

Non-receipt: (Dispute) This means the buyer has informed PayPal that they didn’t receive the item they purchased. To win a dispute like this, you can either choose to do nothing and not respond at all, or you can upload any proof you have.
